Shiny odds in PokeMMO

Each wild Pokémon has a 1 in 30,000 chance of being shiny. Two things improve it, each by 10%:

• Donator status.
• The Shiny Charm.

With one of the two, the odds are about 1 in 27,000. Nothing else changes the chance of a single encounter: what you can change is how many Pokémon you see per hour.

Hordes: five chances per encounter

Hordes are the fastest way to hunt. With Sweet Scent, a whole group of wild Pokémon appears at once, and every Pokémon of the horde rolls its own shiny chance. A horde of 5 gives 5 chances per encounter, for barely more time than a single battle.

That is why the best spot for a species is the one where it comes in the largest hordes, and not the one where it is the most common alone. Each Pokémon's page in the Pokédex lists its best shiny spots, with the expected number of that Pokémon per encounter.

Encounters change with the in-game season and the time of day. The locations pages open on the current season, so you can check a spot before going there.

Hunt the easiest member of the family

A shiny Pokémon stays shiny when it evolves. For many species, the easiest way is to hunt a pre-evolution that comes in bigger hordes, then evolve it. The fiches point to that pre-evolution when its spots are better.

Pokémon you cannot shiny hunt

• Pokémon that are not found in the wild cannot be shiny hunted on a route: their page explains how to get them.
• Mythical Pokémon obtained through a summon cannot be shiny.

Shiny breeding

Two shiny parents always give a shiny egg. It is how players make shiny Pokémon with perfect IVs, but every base Pokémon of the tree must then be shiny, which makes it one of the most expensive projects in the game. The breeding guide explains how many Pokémon each target needs.
